September is Hunger Action Month and there are many ways
that hunger relief agencies across Maine can get involved in this national
campaign. The theory behind Hunger Action Month is this – when we all raise our
voices at the same time, with the same message, we’re able to break through the
din and make ourselves heard.
Here at Good Shepherd Food Bank, we will be promoting Hunger
Action Month on social media, during various fundraising events, and through
sustained media outreach during September. We are also spreading the word about "GO ORANGE" day on September 5 - Feeding America and food banks across the country will be working to turn the nation orange for a day. We'll be wearing orange that day and hope you will too!
In addition to "going orange" on September 5, here’s how you can engage your community and your clients
during Hunger Action Month:
PLUS – we have customized some of these resources for use by our partner agencies. Feel free to add your logo and your own twist to the following items and distribute them widely!
STAY TUNED for additional resources, including a toolkit
detailing how your agency can conduct a “Paper Plate” campaign with clients and
community members. Paper Plate campaigns are an excellent way to draw the
attention of local, state, and federal legislators and also the media to share
how hunger impacts communities.
We will also be encouraging all of our partner agencies to send in photos of local Hunger Action Month activities throughout September. There will even be something to sweeten the pot - every agency that submits photos of Hunger Action Month activities will be entered into a drawing to win a prize. The prize will be announced soon - so check the blog often for more information!
